Historic Frenchtown Association Meeting

Regularly scheduled meetings are the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm.

Irish Set Dancing

Set dancing is a form of social dancing which has been popular in Ireland for over 150 years. Sets are danced by four couples in a square. They are descended from the French quadrilles, which were brought to Ireland by the British army in the nineteenth century. Irish dancers adapted the figures to their own music and steps to form dances with great drive and enjoyment.

We will be hosting these dances twice a month at Connections to Success in St Charles. Here are the upcoming dates for the rest of the year, they are all Saturdays, 8-11pm:
  • 10/15
  • 10/29
  • 11/12
  • 11/26
  • 12/10

The only cost will be a voluntary donation that will simply be used to support the dance.

All dances are taught. Everything is aimed at being beginner friendly.

There is much more info on what set dancing is here. setdancingstlouis.com

There is also a Facebook group for set dancing in St Louis.

Connections to Success is at
1701 N. 2nd St

Planning Session to Create New 110-acre Riverfront Park

The St. Charles Parks & Recreation Board has recently taken possession of a 110-acre site on the Missouri riverfront and has engaged Jacobs Engineering to create a master plan to turn it into a park. The public is invited to assist in
creating the new park so that it meets the community's needs. This first planning session will include:  A presentation of existing site conditions at the mobile home buy-out site along with a review of opportunities and constraints affecting development of the floodplain site.  A review of a broad range of possible park uses to assist those in attendance in identifying possible park uses.

A hands-on breakout session for those in attendance to:share their thoughts on an overall design approach, goals, and objectives for the park sketch their ideas on aerial site photos

A wrap-up discussion will be held to summarize the session's findings.

Following the parade the HFA will be holding a party at 1128 N 2nd Street, Saint Charles.
The Mardi Gras Parade and party is a family friendly parade sponsored by the Jaycees that we have participated it for the last several years. We enjoy throwing beads and candy from our float to the people who line the streets as much as they enjoy getting them. The Frenchtown King & Queen (Mark & Sue Nitchman) will reign from our float.  After the parade we regroup for a pot-luck supper and frolicking.  Any Frenchtowner is invited…bring a dish to share or a $5 per person donation.  It is a time to get to know each other in a festive atmosphere!  Flyer can be downloaded below.
